There are no parks or communities on the lake. Cherry Lake is partially within Montmartre No. 126 (Rural Municipality) and partially within Francis No. 127 (Rural Municipality).
Indian Head Bird Sanctuary is 13km SSE and Kendal Game Preserve is 20km NNW of Cherry Lake.
The lake was officially named on 1950-05-04.
