There are no parks or communities on the lake. Highland Lake is partially within Day Star 87 (Reserve), partially within Kawacatoose First Nation 88 (Reserve) and partially within Big Quill No. 308 (Rural Municipality).
Mount Hope Wildlife Management Unit is 27km ESE, Raymore Recreation Site is 18km ENE, Wynyard Regional Park is 24km SSW and Touchwood Hills Post Provincial Park is 26km NW of Highland Lake.
