The lake is in the southern fishing zone. Northern Pike, Walleye, White Sucker and Yellow Perch can be found in Island Lake.
Porcupine Hills Provincial Park is adjacent the lake. Island Lake is partially within Hudson Bay No. 394 (Rural Municipality).
Brockelbank Hill Protected Area is 14km SE, North Steeprock Lake Provincial Park is 23km WSW, Whitefish Lake Provincial Park is 23km NNW, Porcupine Provincial Forest is 18km WNW and Brockelbank Hill is 14km SE of Island Lake.
