Murray Lake Bird Sanctuary is partially within the lake. Murray Lake is partially within Moosomin 112B (Reserve) and partially within Meota No. 468 (Rural Municipality).

Meota Regional Park is 12km E, Scent Grass Lake Bird Sanctuary is 13km NW, The Battlefords Provincial Park is 9.8km SE and Scent Grass Lake Game Preserve is 12km NW of Murray Lake.

The lake was officially named on 1939-12-12.
