The lake is in the central fishing zone. Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike and Walleye can be found in Nova Lake.
Prince Albert National Park is adjacent the lake. Nova Lake is partially within Big River No. 555 (Rural Municipality).

Nova Lake was named after Andrew Nova on 1951-04-05 as part of the GeoMemorial Commemorative Naming Program ran by the Sask Government.
