Granite Lake Recreation Site is 17km SW, Hanson Lake Recreation Site is 13km NE, Jan Lake Recreation Site is 17km SSE and Leaf Rapids Recreation Site is 11km SSW of Sewap Lake.
The lake was officially named on 1949-11-03. The name Sewap Lake is of Cree origin.
