There are no parks or communities on the lake. Smith Lake is partially within Pelican Lake 191B (Reserve) and within Spiritwood No. 496 (Rural Municipality).
Chitek Lake Recreation Site is 12km SSE, Lac Eauclaire Recreation Site is 22km S and Shell Lake Recreation Site is 19km SSW of Smith Lake.
The lake was officially named on 1956-10-04.
