The lake is in the northern fishing zone. Lake Trout, Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike and Round Whitefish can be found in Tazin Lake.

The lake was officially named on 1944-11-28. The name Tazin Lake is of Chipewyan, Dene Suline origin.
