The lake is in the central fishing zone. Burbot, Cisco, Lake Trout, Lake Whitefish, Longnose Sucker, Northern Pike, Walleye, White Sucker and Yellow Perch can be found in Wasekamio Lake.

The lake was officially named on 1944-12-09. The name Wasekamio Lake is of Woods Cree origin.
