The lake is in the central fishing zone. Burbot, Cisco, Lake Whitefish, Longnose Sucker, Northern Pike, Sauger, Walleye, White Sucker and Yellow Perch can be found in Wintego Lake.

The lake was officially named on 1956-09-06. The name Wintego Lake is of Woods Cree origin.
